The American brand was officially launched in 2014, but behind Primitive lies a much longer history of authentic skateboarding, technical street skating, and a legendary career built by Paul Rodriguez over the course of more than twenty years. Primitive perfectly embodies the evolution of modern skateboarding: technical, clean, creative, and with a strong aesthetic identity.
At Pleasures Milano, you’ll find a complete selection of Primitive Skateboards decks, apparel, and accessories curated by our team, which has been living and breathing real skateboarding since 1999.

Paul Rodriguez and the origins of a street skating legend
To truly understand Primitive Skateboards, you must first know the story of Paul Rodriguez, one of the strongest and most influential street skaters of all time. Born in Tarzana, California, Paul grew up in a close-knit family with a father famous in the entertainment world, but from a very young age he developed a true obsession with skateboarding.
The nickname “P-Rod” came about during his teenage years, and soon everyone began to realize that his talent was something entirely different. Paul received his first skateboard around the age of twelve, and from that moment on, his life changed completely. The spots of Los Angeles became his second home, and skateboarding quickly became his sole mission.
From the very beginning, Rodriguez impressed everyone with his fluidity, control, and ease in executing technical tricks. At a time when street skateboarding was evolving rapidly, Paul managed to take it to a whole new level, especially in switch stance, skating rails, hubbas, and ledges with incredible naturalness.
His style was extremely clean yet at the same time powerful and innovative. Paul Rodriguez quickly became the symbol of the new street generation of the early 2000s and is still considered one of the most technical skaters ever.

From his beginnings with DNA Skateboards to the City Stars era
Paul Rodriguez’s career began very early. At just 14 years old, he joined the team at the One Eighteen skate shop thanks to Andy Netkin, a key figure in the future founding of Primitive Skateboards. Even back then, Netkin was convinced that Paul would become a global skateboarding superstar.
His first official sponsorship came in 1999 with DNA Skateboards, where Paul appeared in the historic video part “Microanalysis.” It took just a few years for his name to start making the rounds throughout the American skate scene.
Rodriguez later joined the City Stars team, the brand founded by legend Kareem Campbell. And it was here that Paul truly began to explode onto the global scene. In the “Street Cinema” video, he even received the closing part—a role reserved only for the team’s strongest and most influential skaters.
The City Stars roster was incredible, featuring names like Mikey Taylor, Justin Case, Devine Calloway, and Kevin “Spanky” Long. During that period, Paul Rodriguez’s skill level grew impressively day by day. Impossible tricks, off-the-charts technique, and an increasingly refined style began to make him one of the most followed skaters in the world.

From Girl Skateboards to Plan B: Global Recognition
When City Stars decided to produce Rodriguez’s first pro model, their paths slowly began to diverge. Paul felt the need to take on new challenges, and so came one of the most important calls of his career: Girl Skateboards.
Joining the Girl team was practically a dream come true for Paul Rodriguez. Mike Carroll was one of his all-time favorite skaters, and being able to skate alongside legends like Rick Howard and the other Girl riders meant the world to him.
In 2002, his first official pro model with Girl Skateboards was released, and from that moment on, his popularity went global. P-Rod began dominating contests, video parts, and magazines, becoming the face of global street skateboarding.
A few years later, Paul moved to Plan B Skateboards in the midst of the brand’s historic relaunch led by Danny Way and Colin McKay. Here too, Rodriguez left a massive mark with iconic boards and legendary video parts that are still considered among the best ever seen in modern street skating.
At the same time, his partnership with Nike SB took off, leading Paul Rodriguez to become one of the most important figures ever in the world of skateboarding and footwear. His Nike SB signature shoes became some of the best-selling and most beloved skate shoes of all time.

The Birth of Primitive Skateboards
Primitive began as a skate shop and lifestyle project run by Andy Netkin and Paul Rodriguez’s longtime friends. As early as 2008, Primitive Store was selling apparel, skate supplies, and curated products, building a strong identity within the California skate scene.
But it was in 2014 that everything changed for good. Andy Netkin and Paul Rodriguez decided to officially launch Primitive Skateboards as a global independent brand with P-Rod as the company’s president.
From its very first months, Primitive immediately made a name for itself thanks to an ultra-modern image, a killer team, and top-notch product quality. Primitive brings to skateboarding a perfect blend of street technique, contemporary aesthetics, hip-hop culture, anime, art, and streetwear.
Some of the biggest names in the global skate scene began joining the team, including Carlos Ribeiro, Nick Tucker, Tiago Lemos, Miles Silvas, Wade Desarmo, Spencer Hamilton, Franky Villani, Trent McClung, Giovanni Vianna, and many others.
Even today, the Primitive team is considered one of the most powerful and stylish in the world thanks to its technical, modern, and incredibly spectacular skateboarding.

Primitive today: decks, streetwear, and legendary collaborations
Today, Primitive Skateboards is one of the most sought-after and coveted brands on the international skateboarding scene. Primitive decks are renowned for their build quality, responsive pop, lightness, and durability. They are designed for technical street skating but are also perfect for parks and high-level modern skateboarding.
In addition to decks, Primitive also produces a complete line of skate and streetwear apparel consisting of t-shirts, hoodies, jackets, pants, and accessories with a recognizable and ultra-contemporary aesthetic.
One of the elements that has made Primitive even more famous is its exclusive collaborations. The brand has created legendary collections dedicated to Tupac Shakur, Notorious B.I.G., Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, Sailor Moon, Rick and Morty, and countless other iconic universes of global pop culture.
Primitive has managed to perfectly blend hardcore skateboarding, modern streetwear, and contemporary culture, creating something unique in the global skate scene.
