Hard Luck MFG: Hardcore Skateboarding from California

Hard Luck MFG is one of those brands that perfectly embodies the rawest, most authentic, and underground side of American skateboarding. Born in the heart of Southern California’s skate culture, the brand has managed over the years to build a very strong identity thanks to a blend of hardcore skateboarding, street style, and direct influence from some of the most legendary figures on the global scene.

The brand originally launched in the early 2000s as a wheel company, and its first logo was even hand-drawn by Mark Gonzales, one of the most influential figures in the history of modern skateboarding. Although the initial project didn’t last long, that logo and that attitude remained alive in the American underground skate scene.

In 2014, the brand was completely reborn thanks to Steve Luther, the key figure behind the relaunch of Vans Skateboarding and the launch of Converse Skateboarding. Hard Luck wasn’t simply reopened: the brand was rebuilt from the ground up with a clear philosophy centered on authenticity, real skate culture, and no commercial compromises.

From that moment on, Hard Luck MFG quickly began to establish itself as one of the most respected names in the American hardcore skate scene.

Jason Jessee, Eric Dressen, and the “skate and destroy” spirit

One of the things that makes Hard Luck MFG so credible in the skateboarding scene is the team associated with the brand. Behind the project are some true legends of American skateboarding, such as Jason Jessee and Eric Dressen.

Jason Jessee is one of the absolute icons of 1980s and 1990s skateboarding. His aggressive, fast, and totally out-of-control style has influenced entire generations of skaters. Hard Luck clearly embodies that “skate and destroy” attitude typical of the American old school: real skateboarding, zero compromises, and pure street culture.

Eric Dressen has also contributed enormously to the brand’s identity thanks to his legendary history in the California pool, transition, and street scenes. The presence of figures of this caliber makes Hard Luck much more than just a commercial brand: it is a true piece of American skate culture.

Hard Luck MFG Today

Today, Hard Luck continues to grow while maintaining a strongly independent identity rooted in Southern California skateboarding culture. The brand has expanded its line with flannel shirts, jackets, t-shirts, and apparel built to last without following fleeting trends.

The brand’s aesthetic remains heavily influenced by the streets, Californian skate garages, and American underground culture. The motto “Las Calles Son Nuestras” perfectly embodies the Hard Luck philosophy: the streets belong to the skaters.
