THRASHER MAGAZINE: THE LEADER IN SKATEBOARDING
Thrasher Magazine is a legendary skateboarding magazine founded in January 1981 in San Francisco, USA. The two founders of the world’s most famous skateboarding magazine are Fausto Vitello and Eric Swenson. From the very beginning, the magazine featured content on skateboarding, music, photography, interviews with pro skaters, and a wealth of material centered around the world of skateboarding.
Shortly after its launch, the magazine quickly expanded worldwide, becoming a cult favorite among riders everywhere. The colorful 1980s served as a springboard for the magazine to reach a global audience. Skateboarding in the 1980s was of immense interest and on the rise both in the U.S. and around the world.
In the magazine’s early issues, readers could find the most famous pro skaters of the era captured in epic photos and exclusive interviews. The founders of Thrasher were also the two creators of the legendary skateboard truck brand Independent.
From the very beginning, the magazine was created to promote the newly launched skate truck brand, but it soon took a different turn, gaining a readership across the entire skate community and officially becoming the world’s number one skateboarding magazine.

JAKE PHELP: THE LEGEND OF THRASHER MAGAZINE
The first editor was Kevin Thatcher. Later, Jake Phelp joined the Thrasher team as the official editor. Since then, everything has changed within the editorial staff. Jake immediately brought a punk and authentic spirit to what hardcore skateboarding should be.
In the magazine’s articles, it’s immediately clear that they don’t mince words, and for this reason, the magazine has been respected worldwide for over 30 years. Over the past few decades, Thrasher has produced successful formats that have generated significant hype in the skateboarding world.
Events like “The King of the Road” are still talked about today. Also, if you’re not familiar with “Hall of Meat,” we recommend you look into it and learn more.
Thrasher is “gnarly as f@+k!” In everything the guys do, there’s a very hardcore and punk element to skateboarding—we’re not talking about skateboarding for posers here, but the true “skate and destroy” spirit.
“Skate and Destroy” is the motto that Thrasher and Jake Phelps popularized many years ago; the magazine’s cult following revolves around killer spots and skaters pulling off tricks at the absolute limit. The true essence of skateboarding, as it should be, finds its perfect harmony in this American magazine.
Today, Thrasher Magazine is the oldest skate magazine in the world; not even the giant Transworld Skateboarding has achieved similar success. This success was undoubtedly made possible by the Thrasher flame logo, which has gone viral over the past 20 years.

THRASHER MAGAZINE HOODIES AND T-SHIRTS
The magazine’s hoodies and T-shirts have been worn not only by skaters but by fans all over the world. Many music stars, actors, and celebrities have also been photographed wearing a Thrasher T-shirt.
Since then, Thrasher apparel has transformed a hardcore skate magazine into a brand in demand worldwide. Everyone wants the Thrasher logo, and for many hardcore skaters, this trend just doesn’t sit right.
For skaters, anyone wearing a Thrasher T-shirt who doesn’t actually skateboard is considered a poser, but that’s another story. We say it doesn’t matter if you skate or not—wear what you want, when you want.
Wherever you go, you’ll find someone wearing a legendary T-shirt with the flame or Skate Goat logo; the skate magazine has become a true cult brand.
The world of skateboarding owes a great deal to the magazine, which radically transformed skateboarding subculture. In the late 1990s, the magazine even sponsored a video game for the Sony PlayStation titled *Skate and Destroy*.
Since 1990, the magazine has crowned the world’s best skater with the title “Skater of the Year”; every year, the whole world awaits this celebration, which is considered the Nobel Prize of global skateboarding.

SKATEBOARDING CLOTHING: A STYLE ICON
In recent years, the contest organized by Thrasher, “King of the Road,” has increasingly propelled the magazine to the top. The “King of the Road” competition is by invitation only.
Many pros invited to the contest must face various challenges; for two weeks, the skaters travel across America earning points that determine the title of “King of the Road.”
Jake Phelp has always been the driving force behind these events; Phelp always brought his punk and hardcore spirit to make the hype surrounding the event unique and original.
Jake Phelp (RIP) has left us, and a huge void has been created in the global skateboarding family and at Thrasher magazine.
Thrasher is still with us, and the magazine has no intention of giving up—skate and destroy, forever.
